Today we live in a world of dramatic culture,
economic, social and educational. ICT is being use by million of person and is
skyrocketing. The media culture is saturated by economy, politics, culture and
education. The media culture has a potential to achieve of institutionalize
forms of education. About ICT there is a debate and how is begin use because
they are seen easy victims of pervasive and powerful media. There is an extreme
view of broke family, teenager getting pregnant, child trafficking and
prostitution on the web. Many parents do not have connection on their
children’s education. School has transformed the way of teaching providing
students with skills of survive and thrive in the media culture. Another
problem of ICT is television encase it present material disturbing children and
making them passive. There is also
another panic of the media, which is the use of new devices or the adoption of
new cultural forms. The optimistic view of ICT is that Children are being
benefits with this use. Student now day know more about ICT then their parents
and teacher need to be capacity in this area. Student should have a limits and
advice by adults because they are unable to manager their lives. ICT has opened
the world geographical and social. Together with the Media culture it provides
engagement and resistance in the global economy. There is advantage of using
ICT in learning. Many teacher use ICT for learning and it has positive impacts
on students. I think something great about this is that you can learn anywhere
and anytime. It provides us information when we want and it is of a lot of help.
For example, I usually have questions about things and with the help of a
mobile phone and internet I can research for the answer. It is easier to
download a PDF document then going to a library for searching for information.
Student think that ICT plays a role on education learning but there are also
some disadvantages. For example, many students are more familiar with ICT then
their parents. That means that they learn fasten then their parents. This also
brings a problem when talking student with teacher because students are more
familiar in the use. The teacher need to
be updating the content of courses and it makes learning for students
slower. When wanting to update there is
also a cost hardware and software expensive. Another disadvantage about ICT is
that there is a reducing on communication with the students and staff has to
take their time preparing this class. I also see the developing in the learning
that you can send document and complete learning tasks. It offer us many things
like reading text, sending text messages and learning things from all over the
world. ICT is changing many things about culture for example, the way of
learning is not the same because young people are learning faster about thing then
they were use in there parents ages.
CALL is Computer Assisted Language Learning and it has change many
things. It has become widespread and language teacher have to think of the
implications of computers for language learning. CALL has developed over the
last 30 years and its categorized phases of three which refers to as
behavioristic CALL, communicative CALL, and integrative CALL. The first Phase
it was call behavioristic and it was implemented in the 1960s and 70s. This
phase was based on the then-dominant behaviorist theories of learning and it
was referred as “drill and practice”. The course case was base on a model that
was computer as tutor by Taylor in the 1980. Based on some notions, there where
a tutoring systems developed for the mainframe computer that were used at the
time. One of them was PLATO system and it rans its hardware. The second phase
was communicative CALL and it prominent in the 1970s and 80s. It was base on
the communicative approach to teaching and one of the main advocates was John
Underwood. Something about CALL was the development of two important technology
and they were the multimedia computers and the Internet. Today Multimedia
exemplified by the CD-ROM and it allows doing variety of media by a machine.
The multimedia is powerful because of entails hypermedia and that means the
multimedia are all liked together. That means that learners can navigate by a
mouse, pointing and clicking. The internet it provides us many things and it
has only became wide-spread in the last few years. With internet we can
communicate directly with learner or speakers by doing at anytime and anywhere.
We can do it by sending an email and using program that allow us to have a
conversation by typing at a keyboard. Internet allows to do many things it has
it bad side and its good side but I think it is of a great help having ICT and
CALL for education and for ordinary living.
